It has become more apparent that proactive measures must be taken to prevent small repairs from becoming larger issues in the future.

  • Aging in Place

    A study conducted in 2014 (sponsored by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Coalition on Aging and the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute) identifies housing services gaps for older adults in Mecklenburg County; affordable housing needs are acute among middle-income older adults who cannot afford to live in expensive retirement communities and do not qualify for housing assistance.

    Services include but not limited to:

    Installing grab bars, handrails, vertical rails

    Raised toilets

    Removing trip hazards

    Improved interior and exterior lighting

    Entry and threshold ramps, low– rise steps

  • Critical Home Repair

    It has become more apparent that proactive measures must be taken to prevent small repairs from becoming larger issues in the future.

    Services include but not limited to:

    Minor plumbing repairs (faucet replacement, leaking toilets and sinks)

    Minor drywall repairs

    Door adjustments and hardware

    Outlet replacements (GCFI, light switches)

  • Qualifications

    Must be below 70% AMI (Area Median Income) for household

    Must be within Mecklenburg county

    Must exhibit inability to make repairs independently

    Must be up to date on mortgage payments and/or property taxes

    Must be an owner-occupant

    Must have lived in home for at least 5 years with the intention on staying at least 5 more years after repairs

    While we have identified specific priority areas for support, we remain open to considering other projects with rates based on the scope of work.
